Trucking Insurance

The right insurance can protect you and your truck, as well as any cargo on board. There are various insurance options to choose from, so selecting the appropriate coverage for your specific trucking needs is extremely important.

At Lux Insurance, we work with leading transportation carriers — including Lancer, Great American and Mapfre — to build policies that match how you actually run: local hauls, long-haul interstate, new-venture authority, or multi-truck fleets.

  • Primary liability
  • Physical damage
  • Motor truck cargo
  • Non-trucking liability (bobtail)
  • Trailer interchange
  • General liability
  • MCS-90 filings
  • Hired & non-owned auto

Commercial Auto

Commercial auto insurance is a must-have for any business that owns or operates vehicles — including taxi services and other for-hire livery businesses. Only with the right coverage will you be able to get the proper assistance following wrecks, accident lawsuits or other vehicle hazards.

All commercial auto insurance policies look different, depending on the size, scope and unique operating risks of the policyholder. Most policies will offer coverage like:

  • Liability insurance — covers bodily injury and property damage you cause to others
  • Collision insurance — pays for vehicle repairs after a wreck
  • Comprehensive insurance — covers theft, weather, fire and vandalism
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) — pays when the at-fault party can't
  • Medical payments — accident-related medical costs
  • Further coverage endorsements and supplementary plans

Cargo & Inland Marine

Cargo insurance protects against losses or damage during shipping domestically or internationally by land, air or sea. The insurance covers the cargo itself — whether the goods are raw materials or finished products — and any packages and containers used to transport them.

We help you structure cargo limits that match the commodities you actually haul, so you're never underinsured at the loading dock or facing exclusions when it counts.

  • Refrigerated cargo
  • General freight
  • Reefer breakdown
  • Loading & unloading
  • Earned freight
  • Debris removal

Carriers & Filings

As an independent agency, Lux places trucking risks with multiple A-rated carriers that specialize in transportation. We handle the paperwork — DOT and MC authority, MCS-90 filings, BOC-3, and state filings — so you can stay focused on the road.

New venture? No problem. We work with carriers that write new authorities at competitive rates, with no surprise loadings after your first six months.

  • DOT / MC authority filings
  • MCS-90 endorsement
  • BOC-3 process agent filings
  • State and intrastate filings
  • Certificates of insurance (same day)
  • Loss runs and claims history support

Trucking insurance FAQ

What's the difference between primary liability and non-trucking liability?+

Primary liability covers you when you're dispatched and under load. Non-trucking liability (bobtail) covers you when the truck is being used for non-business purposes — like driving home after dropping a trailer.

Do I need motor truck cargo coverage?+

If you're hauling freight for others, yes — and most shippers and brokers will require it. We typically write $100,000 in cargo as a starting point, scaled to commodity value.

Can you help with a new authority?+

Yes. We work with carriers that quote new-venture authorities and we can file your MCS-90 and BOC-3 with the policy.

How quickly can I get a quote?+

Most trucking quotes return within 24–48 hours of receiving your MVRs, loss runs, and equipment list.
